Our commitment to clear communication and partnering on a plan of care is paramount to the success of each and every one of our patients. Simply stated, we care about your liver.
Metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), formerly known as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, involves fat accumulation in the liver linked to metabolic risks such as excess weight, type 2 diabetes, abnormal blood fats, and high blood pressure. Because it often causes no symptoms, it is frequently discovered during routine medical testing.
Evaluation typically involves reviewing medical history, performing blood tests, and assessing liver fat and scarring. While noninvasive tools or specialized imaging are commonly used to gauge fibrosis, liver biopsies are reserved for select cases. Progression to inflammation, known as metabolic dysfunction–associated steatohepatitis (MASH), can lead to advanced fibrosis or cirrhosis, increasing the risk of liver failure, cancer, and cardiovascular disease.
Treatment focuses on sustainable lifestyle modifications—such as gradual weight loss, regular exercise, and a balanced diet—alongside the management of related metabolic conditions. In our practice, we provide both FDA-approved therapies as well as one of the largest research centers for patients to participate in cutting-edge clinical trials. Follow-up care is tailored to the severity of liver scarring. Call 713-794-0700 for details on treatment options and research participation.
